The IOM3 Discovery Box is full of a different items made from a range of materials all with a story to tell.
Best of all there is now one of these fantastic boxes at each of our partner universities (thanks to the lovely people from the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining Education ad Outreach Trust) and out ambassadors can bring them into your school to run sessions.
Activities for primary schools
The box contains items made of metals, plastic, glass, ceramics, fibres, composites and other classes of materials that pupils can handle or that can be hidden around the classroom for the children to find as part of a Materials Scavenger Hunt or a fun Materials Treasure Hunt.
Activities for secondary schools
The box contains a wide range of high tech items and stories to explain what they are made from and why specific materials are used based on their specific materials properties. Items include hop replacements, silicone wafers, artificial aortas and range of smart materials.
