Discover Materials at Museum in the Park

To welcome November, Discover Materials visited the Museum in the Park in Stroud to show off the science behind chocolate.

Museum in the Park always offers a large range of trails and activities for all ages and our visit was no different with the option of doing a materials trail around the park and museum to encourage a more in-depth look at all of the exhibits with a materials lense. There were also lots of colouring activities for those who preferred a more laid-back approach to their materials exploration.

Demonstrations of the properties of chocolate were done using the chocolate impact tester to run experiments with all the visitors and of course, all the chocolate samples were consumed after testing.

Visitors also had the opportunity to play with lots of different materials samples from our busking box and ask any questions.  Everyone was also asked what their favourite materials were so by the end of the day there was an impressive range of suggestions.

Comments from visitors:

“I liked putting the cylinders in lightest to heaviest”

“That was brilliant!”

“Really fun and engaging for my 9 and 7 year olds. A good way to get them thinking about the properties of different materials”
