Meet a MSE Graduate – Jack Dabbs
Jack is a graduate from Loughborough University
What is your current job?
Materials Laboratory Technologist at Williams Racing
What do you do in your job?
Support the Materials Department on material testing programs
What A-Levels (or equivalent) did you do?
Chemistry, Biology and Maths
Why you chose a career in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE)?
Maths and Chemistry were my two favourite subjects at A-Level and I felt that pursuing an engineering degree would provide me with additional skills that compliment this.
What did you enjoy most about your MSE course?
The materials testing in the lab was always fun seeing how a material performed.
What is the coolest thing you have done in your career so far?
Getting my name along with 1005 William Racing employees on the Williams Formula 1 Car for Silverstone 2024 and getting to see it go round the track.
What is your favourite material (and why)?
I’d say epoxy resin because it’s a good matrix for fibres in composite thermosetting materials for high-performance applications such as Motorsport, Automotive and Aerospace. It’s also quite versatile depending on what property you’re looking for.
