What is your current programme of study?

Material Science and Engineering Undergraduate at Imperial College London.

What A-Levels (or equivalent) did you do?

Chemistry Physics Maths and Further Maths

Why did you choose a career in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE)?

I wanted to pick a degree that combined everything that I had loved in A-Levels. I had attended one of Jess Wade’s Lectures on re-thinking the technologies and scientific careers of the future, and was fascinated by her talking about chirality, which is what me research further into this degree.

What did you enjoy most about your MSE course?

I’ve only been doing this course for a semester, but I would say what I am enjoying the most are the labs where we put some interesting topics learnt in lectures into practice, such as Phase Diagrams and constructing our own using hot plates and thermocouples.

What do you see yourself doing in the future?

I’m not sure where I want to be in the future, but I want to be able to use the skills I have for real life issues, whether that be in the lab or as a chartered Engineer will depend on time.

What is your favourite material (and why)?

I hope to have a deeper understanding as to why, but for now it has got to be superconductors. Hearing about them in Physics, and their ability to have no resistance below a critical temperature really inspired me to explore materials in more detail.

What advice would you give your 16 year old self?

Always be open to change, and learn to adapt to obstacles thrown at you
