Jo Galloway
What is your current job  / programme of study?
Before this I designed and made protein structures at Bristol, and before that I made biologically templated magnetic nanoparticles at Leeds.
Why did you choose a career in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE)?
I was a secondary school science teacher (PGCE 2005) for 2 1/2 years between my undergraduate and Masters courses. I have engaged in outreach activities including activities around chocolate crystallisation for British Science Week (2019), and contributing to development sessions for a play called, “do scientists dream of synthetic sheep?” which explored Synthetic Biology questions.
What degree course did you do?
I completed my PhD in Physics in 2012, a Masters in Geochemistry in 2008, and my BSc in Geology in 2001 (Leeds), meaning I have a very multidisciplinary scientific background.
What is your research about?
I currently work at Leeds on self-assembly of soft matter and mineral formation in confinement.
What is the coolest thing you have done in your career so far?
